Importing Data into Sage 50 Canadian edition

1 minute read time.

Quick blog update on how to import data into Sage 50.  The first and easiest method is to import information via csv file (a common format openable with Excel).  This sort of import allows you to pull data into Sage 50 like customers, employees, vendors, inventory items, but it does not import quantities, transactions or balances.  The format needed for this is fairly specific but there are full templates laid out in this master list of import via csv in the following knowledgebase article - be sure to use the related articles to find the import information for your specific need:

It is possible to import general journal entries into Sage 50 via text file, and again there is a set format for how those need to be laid out. There is a knowledgebase article about how to do this with examples and step by step instructions:

Finally, Sage 50 has the ability to import transactions via IMP file.  In general, this is designed to work with add ons for the program, like Point of Sale programs or custom built programs made via use of the Software Development Kit (available here, http://www.sage.com/ca/partners/development-partners-erp-crm-hrms ). The IMP file can be made manually though and imported, the format needed for that is set out in the following article:
