How to check if there's issues with your Sage Database

2 minute read time.

Scare tactics and money upfront requests are warning signs. Sage does not contact clients to warn them about their data issues. We cannot see percentage (%) levels of corruption. 3rd parties do exist for working with Sage Software data. This is useful if you have older software. Sage will only repair issues with data for currently supported software 2017 (as per our obsolescence policy across product lines in KB 29963).

If it sounds exaggerated or fishy, stay calm, hang up and double check the info. Contact Sage 50 CA's support team directly at 1-888-522-2722.

How to check if there's issues with your Sage Database

It's rare, but if ever encountered data issues give off error messages such as:

  • "Sage 50 cannot open the database because the database engine reported an error" when trying to open my Sage 50 file (KB 21704)
  • "Data inconsistencies have been detected in the database. Your data may be damaged" when opening file. (KB 10222)
  • Error: "An error has occurred while moving current year to last year…" (KB 10234)

Note*: Our Knowledgebase KBs offers plenty of troubleshooting steps to take.

If you have access to your main screen when informed about a data issue, try the below :

Step 1:

The first place to check is within the Maintenance menu > Data Integrity, everything should balance and say Data OK at the bottom.

 Step 2:

Next, also within the Maintenance menu > see Advanced Database Check, any error messages should be fixed automatically with this process. If any errors persist however, please contact support at 1-888-522-2722.

Why data issues happen

Data errors can surface at the end of the year, preventing the creation of a new fiscal or calendar year. Conversions and interruptions with processing can cause data corruption (so aim for daily backups). Random corruptions can cause reports, the program or individual modules to crash and or prevent databases from opening all together.

Database structures vary, all programs have a design specific to them. The random image below illustrates how subjects are linked together when programming software linked to a database.

Problems arise when data is split up and imported or merged with existing data.

Technology is constantly changing, thus demanding improvements and additions to program structure and design and or integration with databases which may come from 3rd parties.

In most cases, lots of patience, troubleshooting and time is required; corruption can wreak havoc but our team is available to advise on the best course of action.

How Sage 50 troubleshoots data issues

Our support team has various tools used to test and narrow down data issues. The goal is to determine whether the cause is environmental, caused by mismatched import / upgrade or program bug related. In most cases, issues are covered under warranty. Environmental and import related issues can result in a service fee and a wait of 3 to 5 days to repair. Payment taken upon completion.
