How secure is your mobile device for managing business accounting?

3 minute read time.

There are mobile device security practices that "everybody should do and nobody should ignore" says Drew the binary blogger on the Security in 5 podcast episode 278

"Mobile devices have become as powerful if not more powerful than some PCs and desktops out there, and are used significantly more… As phone applications become more powerful, flexible, functional for financial institutions, payments, chats, communications… a lot of personal data is on those devices so there are security practices that everybody should have at a bare minimum put into place." We explore them below.

At Sage we get as excited as you about advancements in technology. We want the future of accounting / business administration to be invisible.  Voice technology will eventually get us there and mobile devices are the gateway to making this technology usable and widely available.

If you haven't taken advantage already of Sage 50cloud, see our blog on how to setup and download the Sage -Accounting app! This app lets you be on top of money coming in and money going out of your business.

So let's do a poll on the topic of mobile device security,  #protectyourdata

What are some basic bare minimum  mobile security practices?

Layered security is important. This mean implementing all of the following:

  1. Lock your screen
  2. Set your application passwords strong
    • Use 2 factor authentication on apps when it's available
  3. Use secure networks
    • Use a VPN. Don't connect to networks you do not trust, use your data plan over connecting to an insecure data network.
  4. Keep your applications updated
  5. Keep your operating systems updated

If you implement all of the above you'll be significantly more secure on your mobile devices and "if you lose your device you can be more comfortable knowing that your data won't be compromised."
