Adjusting font size for Sage 50 CA

2 minute read time.

Is the font, character sizing in your Sage 50 Canadian Edition small and difficult to read, even if you enlarge the characters in Windows? Below we'll go over what you can do to increase font size within the Sage 50 program. Note that there is no direct setting in the software to adjust font size.

Sage 50 sizes font based on the resolution set for your screen in Windows' settings. KB 59806 shares a link to this Microsoft resource on how to lower your screen resolution.

Tips for optimal Sage 50 screen resolution, include:

  • If screen resolution is set to 1920 x 1080, try lowering it to 1680 x 1050
  • Changing DPI and text size is not recommended because elements will not show in the Sage 50 dialog boxes

If the font is still extremely small on menu screens after screen resolution changes, KB 78052 offers some advanced steps for those skilled and willing to go into the Windows registry. Before doing this, make a backup of your Windows registry. If you do not know how to do this, see the previous link and or contact an IT professional or consultant. The below GIF shows you the process of searching for regedit.exe, right clicking it to "run as administrator," and then going to File > Export and giving the file a name like "RegbackupMay28-22" (it's useful to place a date / time in your backup names). The backup creation may take up to 2-5 minutes depending on your machine's processing power.

Adjusting Windows font size

Skipping ahead in the KB 78052 , to option 1 of the steps to take: After ensuring that the Windows OS is up to date and doing a file search to see if SERIFE.FON and SSERIFE.FON are already installed on your C:\\ drive; as well as, after a backup of your registry, at step 9 navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts

The GIF below walks you through Steps 9 and 10 of the KB.

Step 11 follows a similar process. Once done, close out of the registry and restart your computer then re-open Sage 50.

Option 2 in KB 78052 has the SERIFE.FON and SSERIFE.FON files attached (see below) to be added to the Control Panel > Fonts, folder.
