Sage 50 CND 2023.2 update

SOLVED

I received an email advising to "unsync" my files from the cloud in order to update to 2023.2.

When is this update scheduled to be released.

Regards,

Dianne

It's usually around the last two weeks of Jun but I haven't seen an announcement yet.

Thank you Richard for your response.

So do I just need to unsync my files prior to doing the upgrade and then resync them afterwards?

    Regards,

    Dianne

I'm sorry but I can't answer that question other than saying no it's not that simple.  I don't know if you are referring to your files being shared through the Remote Data Access (RDA) part of Sage 50 or if you have just stored you files on a OneDrive or DropBox location.

To my knowledge, each are different and your files would be handled differently before an update.  It sounds like you are referring to RDA but the email I received referred to storing files in OneDrive or DropBox, etc.  I assumed that was the email your were originally asking about.

I do know you should always do a backup of your file before you upgrade but you didn't mention that.  Please do a backup before you upgrade.

I've never used RDA but my understanding is that you should unshare, then backup and upgrade, then reshare.  Don't quote me, just check the Knowledgebase for an article that should exist by now and give you the instructions.

If your situation is covered under the email that came out around May 30, then you should follow the instructions in it.  eg. backup, move the files to your local c:\SimplyData drive (assuming it is not shared to an online website), backup and upgrade, then determine if you need to move it back to where it was.  Don't overwrite the files that were there, move the old files out then copy the new files in.

I have not mentioned installing the update specifically, only the upgrading of the file.  The installing of the update should be done after your backup is done (assuming you are using File, Backup within Sage 50).  You can choose how to copy/move your files as there are at least 5 different ways to do that (two within the Sage 50 program).

    Hi Richard,

Yes, I am responding to the email of May 30.  Our files are synced to Microsoft OneDrive.

Please make sure you include a proper backup as well.  You used the term "unsync" but I can't find the option in OneDrive files so you should move them as described in the email (they did not mention copy in the email though they linked to an article on copying for some reason).

I don't know how the update will affect the file structure, so please make sure you move the original files from your OneDrive as indicated in the email and don't copy over them if you choose to put the files back.

Thank you very much Richard!  I will send your response off to someone else in our office that has more insight as to what all this means.  Regards, Dianne

I see that the update will be available tomorrow.  Looking at the announcement notes, there doesn't seem to be any notations regarding "unsyncing" our files with OneDrive.  Would you know if that condition has changed?

I would say that it is unlikely to have changed.  Hopefully they will update the announcement but in the meantime, I would rely on the email and move the files before you upgrade.
