Sage 50 CA 2020 to Sage 50 CA Premium 2023

SOLVED

Hello, we just purchased Sage 50 CA Premium 2023.  Is there an update guide for upgrading from Sage 50 CA  2020?  What would be the procedure?  The IT guy is asking.

Once the new version of the program is installed and verified by opening the sample company. You would then open your current data set and the program will do all the updates required to make the data set fully compatible with the new version. If the program suggests making a back up at anytime during this process - do it. You can never have too many back ups of the file if something goes wrong.

If you are moving from the Pro edition to the Premium edition the process is totally the same. However, as the Premium edition is at least a two user version the data must be available to both computers either direct or through a server. The new Sage 50 CA Premium will have to be installed on both computers. If a server is being used the installation on the server could be full or server only as the Sage Connection Manager has to be on the server. The Connection manager will be installed on the other computers when a full installation is completed.

    Hope this helps

Thank you for your prompt reply, I was away a few days.  We are running the connection manager on our server.  My understanding is that there is only one workstation that connects to the connection manager. Our accountant has sent me a screen shot below.  I have not done anything with respect to Sage on either the server or the workstation.  What's my next step?

P.S, I can't seem to attach a screen shot to this message.  The screen shot is of a Sage dialogue box stating: "A product update has been downloaded and is ready to be installed.  Click Install Now to complete the installation. Do not turn off your computer during the installation".

When ever an update to Sage 50 is available it must be installed on all computers involved. The Connection Manager is required to be installed/updated each time. When a server is involved I always update the server first and then each of the other computers in turn. If there is only one computer that uses the Connection Manager you still have to be sure to follow the same procedure as already mentioned.

It looks as though the accountant is suggesting that there are updates available which need to be installed.

If you are running Sage 50 2023.1 then all computers and servers must be on the same version in order to share the data.

We have only installed the Connection manager on our server, we don't want to install the full version of the product on the server.  When I click on "Update the Connection Manager on the server" link, the documentation  seems to be talking about a full install.  We don't want that on our server.  When I click the "Update", will that only update the connection manager or will it install the full updated software along with the connection manager?  In addition I don't see any indication of what update it will  be installing.  Will it be some minor update for Sage 2020 or will it be THE update to 2023?  How can I tell?

No, you do not need to do a full install on the server. When doing the installation through the many screens there will come on which will ask "typical or custom." choose the custom install to install the Connection Manager only on the server. Unfortunately, I don't have an installation program to run so I could give you more exact information on the screens but I hope this helps.

That was helpful, thank you.  The server side is up to date.  Now onto the client side...
