Bank Rec - "Bank Rules" is greyed out....why?

SUGGESTED

Uploaded Bank Statements to a client file....wanted to set up matching but no joy: the Bank Rules feature is greyed-out. I can add/post transactions manually, but am unable to set up rules to process automatically. Any reason for this?

Hi it sounds like you are importing a statement - is that correct? If so, you'll need to use the option "Upload to Bank Services" following Sage Knowledgebase article ID 117086 in order to use the Bank Rules. Using the old import option will not allow you to set up Bank Rules.

Well, you probably are correct, but every time I try it I get a message that the upload is corrupt....I guess I shouldn't have expected that it would work properly. Sigh. I tried every form of download (OFX, ASO, CSV) and every form of date format....no joy at all.

I may try the "proper" bank feed, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. Thoughts?

are you using the new 2023 version?  On my laptop I have to be in single user to do even importation of statements which is weird.  I am not sure if you use auto entry but to use auto entry you need to be in multi user.  Still on auto entry I do not use for bank or credit card statements.  Learned my lesson.  Errors galore.

In the end I had Tech Support on a shared-screen call...they fixed it up due to some kind of corruption on the service file at their end. Having said that, I found that the "automatic" part ain't so automatic and I can make the actual entries faster than I can import and fix them. GJ entries are fine...but anything that runs through A/R or A/P is likely to get jumbled and screwed up. Just not worth the time.

FWIW I tested using my own files prior to implementing between my bookkeeper and clients...there is no way that the automatic matching provides any value at all in terms of "less time". (Maybe if someone is using the Web version of Sage because it is so pedantic and slow....but not compared to the desktop version which is WAY faster for data entry.)
