Sage 50 CA 2022.1 Product Update & How to approach Year End Payroll

1 minute read time.

Your Sage 50 CA year end update is coming soon! This News and Alert announcement shared that the 2022.1 Product Update will start releasing to customers on or after December 28th.  To help keep you up-to-date and compliant, this product update will include any required federal and provincial payroll tax changes for January 1, 2022.

Handling Year End Payroll

Will your last payroll run of the year stretch into 2022? My colleague @Dmaster looked into this and advised that Sage 50 CA users looking to prepay their employees with a 2022 dated payroll cheque before the Dec 28th release will not be able to use the proper tax tables and the automatic tax calculations will be incorrect.

To overcome this issue, you will need to:

  1. Make a backup of your data file by following KB 10390.
  2. Start the new 2022 calendar year by following KB 10323.
  3. Create a new paycheque with a 2022 cheque date.
  4. The taxes will automatically calculate with amounts that will be inaccurate. You can choose to follow KB 12259 to manually calculate payroll taxes using the Payroll Deductions Online Calculator (PDOC) and WEBRAS (for Quebec).
  5. Before clicking Post on your paycheque, you will get the warning message "The payroll formulas being used are valid only for session dates [mm/dd/yyyy] to [mm/dd/yyyy]." This is fine and you will need to click the Yes button.
  6. If you accidentally posted your paycheques without doing a manual payroll calculation based on the PDOC / WEBRAS calculations, follow KB 102451.
