Microsoft: getting Windows 8.1 and 7 users to Upgrade to Windows 10 when they think they are opting out!

1 minute read time.

After reading many articles recently from PC World Magazine and Tech Blogs on the Web it has become apparent Microsoft is trying to reach a Billion Devices with their Windows 10 upgrade, but not all tactics are created equal.

When you get the Windows 10 upgrade prompt on a Windows 7 or 8.1 computer it gives you two options Upgrade Now or Upgrade Later. It used to be that you had to click the X in the top right hand corner to opt out. Now Microsoft has made that a Consent and Upgrade option when you click the "X" of that prompt to upgrade to Windows 10, which isn't the most insightful way to do things if you ask me.

How to opt out now is different, you have to go under the Microsoft logo to find a link called "Here" to get the prompt to opt out of the message.

They give you 30 days to roll it back but it takes hours of down time to do so.... Here are a couple of articles to assist you if you've gotten stuck with the Windows 10 upgrade:
