How to change the fill colour in multiple cells

1 minute read time.

Sometimes when working in Excel, you may want to change the colour in multiple cells without having to do each one separately. For our example below, we are going to change the blue colour to green.

You're welcome to download the workbook to practice.

Step 1: Select Home > Find & Select > Replace.

Step 2: Select the drop-down arrow to the right of the Format Block next to the Find What dialogue box. If you don't know the exact blue colour you have used, you can select Choose Format from Cell and click a blue cell, alternatively, select Format and under the Fill tab select the appropriate colour.

Step 3: The blue colour will now appear in the Preview block. Select Format and go to each tab - Number, Alignment, Font, Border and Protection and click the Clear button. For our exercise, we are only wanting to change the colour and nothing else. Should you wish to change the font, number format, etc. then you could do so on the relevant tabs.

Step 4: Select the drop-down arrow to the right of the Format Block, next to the Replace With dialogue box, and select Format.

Step 5: Select the Fill colour, and then select the appropriate replacement colour. Once you have the colours correct, you can select Replace All.

Step 6: The blue colour has now been replaced with green.
